Website Overhaul | We are Live!

October 20th, 2014

Deep breath.

Wipe your tears.

It’s all over… for the most part.

Oh… Excuse me.. You just caught me in the middle of a post website overhaul pep-talk. I will wrap it up now, and get to blogging.

Today… Monday October 20th at 11:37pm… My first personally designed and developed WordPress site went live.

And I feel like I could conquer the world.

I am not 100% sure where to even start this post… But here goes nothing

**end longest intro ever known to man**

A few months back, I started dwelling on the state of my online presence… A huge passion and minor income stream for me.

I had been really slacking in the blogging department, and not actively pursuing any freelance design work.

But, for the first time in a long time, I was missing it all. I missed the process of filling up my editorial calendar and creating content to keep up with it. I missed the ritual of writing. I missed the daily conversation with women from around the world who are interested in the same things that I am interested in. I missed getting to know clients who have creative entrepreneurial dreams, just like me, and helping them see their dreams to fruition online. I missed a big part of what has occupied my heart, mind, and soul for the past 4 years.

After all of those thoughts, I decided that I needed to act. If I was going to keep on with my freelance design and/or blogging career, I needed to do it to my best ability. If I wasn’t going to keep on with it, I needed to officially shut it down. After much time and thought and prayer, I decided that I owed it to myself to continue pursuing and exploring this big part of who I am and what I have come to love. So… A few months later, here I am.

A few of the logistical decisions I had to make up front, were very scary and intimidating goals/objectives:

If you are a part-time blogger or creative entrepreneur of any kid, you know just as well as I do, that consistency is a constant daily struggle. There isn’t always enough hours in the day to keep every ball from dropping… So consistency is something that is an ongoing struggle when wanting to provide readers with a constant stream of content. Consistency is something that is my largest hurdle (and I am sure will only get harder when our little monster arrives on the scene), but is my top priority. Consistency in the quality of content. Consistency in the delivery of content. Consistency in my dedication to creating content. Here’s to more… Consistency.

This is a big one for me. It is very easy to be autonomous in our online pursuits. I think this has gotten me into trouble, mainly ruts, in the past. Being a creative entrepreneur online does not equal crawling into a black hole to sit by yourself (even though sometimes it will feel that way when you have too much on your plate). What it TRULY means is to collaborate, commiserate, and conversate with not only those who are doing the exact same thing you do every day, but also those who are in different fields, different niches, who have different ideas. Our creative work and our quality of life is best when shared.

At this point in my career, this one only means one thing to me… WordPress. If I am going to continue designing blogs and branch into website design, I need to know and love and live and breathe WordPress. All of my previous work has been on Blogger, so this switch is like learning an entirely new language. I had to find time to make this a priority, and to learn it right, not just quickly. This has been the biggest most exciting hurdle for me, as it opens up so many doors and opportunities. This site you are reading right now is not the first site I have designed on WordPress, but it is definitely the first site I have fully designed and developed on my own. And I am really proud of the accomplishment

**brief moment of silence**

OK… moving on.

All that to say…. Today is the first day of a fun new chapter for me personally, as well as for my blog and freelance design work. I am officially opening up my doors to new blog design, web design and branding clients. I am beyond excited for the opportunities ahead.

Thank you… From the DEEPEST depths of my heart for following along with this journey. I can’t even tell you how much it means to me to get to share and express what I do in such a unique way online. Cheers to the next 4 years.

Special and huge THANK YOU goes out to Becca Stanley, my most talented friend, neighbor, and sometimes even co-worker. She took all of the photos for the layout of this site, and I am beyond thankful. She is always more than willing to waltz around our rugged and beautiful west side, looking for the best graffiti, and waiting for the most perfect lighting circumstance. Her photography portfolio is about to get a major overhaul as well (I wonder who will be doing that…) so keep your eye out for more of her inspiring work.
