Home Renovation: Living Room Reveal

January 4th, 2016

I don’t know if I could be more excited to be writing here today. Today is the day I am officially kicking off the new maddierichardson.com with a super delicious and chock-full-o-good living room makeover. This is officially… Wait for it… The first completed room in our home renovation (if completing a room is actually a thing). Woohoo!

Burely and I moved into our new home about 2.5 months ago, after 1 month of renovations. Most of the renovation elbow grease was put into the kitchen and the downstairs bathroom, but we also had the entire house painted white from top to bottom.

Now, if you know me, you may know that this is a bit out of character as I tend to be a painting fiend… But with life as busy as it is right now (more to come on all those beautiful details), I decided to treat myself to paying someone else to do this. And it was worth every. Penny.

So without further ado… Here are the befores.

She’s a beauty, right? (And yes, that painting is a nude laying on some kind of leopard animal… SAUCY!).

The living room was actually one of the least offensive spaces that we have dealt with in this home. Most of the other rooms were once adorned with royal blues, dusty purples, and/or bright reds (and many tiny cherub figurines plastered to the walls). But the living room was pretty kosher, so the biggest change was a nice coat of fresh white paint.

Here she is today:

The goal for the living room was to be a clean, functional, modern yet cozy space. It’s the first room when you walk into the house, and it is where we spend most of our lounge time with Benjamin. So, It needed to be baby and adult friendly.

The rug really makes the space for me. It feels traditional yet vibrant which is how a lot of my style seems to lean these days. It really ties the room together is a for sure statement in contrast to all of the clean white walls and sofa.

The only new pieces that I purchased for the living room are the mid-century credenza and the rug. There are still a few items that I want to make and buy for the walls and to add some additional storage, but I am really satisfied with how far we have gotten without spending loads of dough.

Voila! That’s her. I am sitting on that very sofa now as Benjamin is about 1/2 way through his afternoon nap, and I have to say… It feels really good. Not only this room, and not only these few minutes of babyless silence… But writing this post.

Thank you so much to all of you have been on this journey with me for the last 6 years. I can’t wait to re-connect in 2016 and share all of the things.
